'Mad Men's' murder mystery

Divorce! Murder! Sleeping pills!

With its share of “Did that just happen?” moments, Sunday’s episode of "Mad Men" was more daytime soap than primetime drama.

We opened with an awkward elevator encounter between Megan, an ailing Don and Andrea, one of his past conquests. This wasn't the first time Megan had met one of Don’s former flings, and she expressed her concerns about his adulterous past. He assured her that he was committed to their marriage, and went about his mission to germ up the office.

Andrea later showed up at Don’s apartment in an attempt to seduce him but was promptly shown the door. She returned a short while later from her hideout in the service stairwell, and Don gave into temptation. (Gross, because you know he's contagious.)

Afterward, when she chided him for his philandering ways, he strangled her and stuffed her under the bed, which back here in 2012 resulted in a flurry of text messages of the “WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!” variety.

Alas, Andrea’s visit was simply a fever-induced manifestation of Don’s fear of failing Megan.

Elsewhere, Sally was stuck with Pauline at the Haunted Mansion™ while Henry and Betty were delayed in Buffalo. The two got off to a rocky start but eventually bonded over the gory details of the Chicago nurse slayings and Seconal, making Pauline my pick for 1966’s Grandmother of the Year.

In SCDP news, we finally got to see loveable weirdo Michael Ginsburg in action, and he’s good! He impressed Don – and the clients – during a pitch for a shoe campaign but derailed soon after with a bizarro, fanfic-y retelling of “Cinderella.”

Ever on the quest to get a leg up on Pete, Roger asked Peggy to whip something up on the DL for the Mohawk campaign to play up the fact that they were the only airline in operation during a mechanic’s strike.

Peggy balked at the measly $10 he offered her for the job and hustled him for all the money he had – $400, which today is equivalent to something like $30 million.

Upon leaving work for the night, Peggy discovered Dawn sleeping in Don's office. She was too frightened to return home because of rioting in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood and Peggy insisted she spend the night at her place. Everything was going swimmingly until an awkward moment where Dawn caught Peggy nervously eyeing her purse before going to bed.

Last night’s most shocking development involved Dr. Rapist, who was back in New York after a year’s tour in Vietnam. After meeting baby Kevin and reuniting with Joan, he told her that he was going back for another tour. “Don’t let the door hit you in the a**,” said everyone.

Between Joan and Dr. Rapist’s parents, the mood was tense at a homecoming dinner celebrating his return. It became even more uncomfortable once Joan found out that he’d volunteered for the second tour. Much to our delight, she later sent him packing, and at last, our long national nightmare is over! Farewell, Dr. Rapist. You were loathed by many and loved by none.
